I want to start this journey with a very simple, thank you.
All journeys begin or should begin with a goal in mind - the journey I will share with you will be somewhat similar to that. I have learned a lot from the people I have worked with in my short career as a photographer. From celebrity red carpets and The Tony awards to 35+ Magazine publications and everything in between, I promise to share with you that I have learned, learning or want you to avoid as you follow this story. You will also see a side of me that not many get to see, which is the guy behind the camera. I want this blog to be a place where I share what I know from photographing models, picking the right words for clients, managing big wins and losses & most importantly - sharing why I love doing what I do.
So where do we begin?
Let us start with the basic's, what got me into photography: Simple answer, I love capturing the moment. I know - cheesy. Its the truth, ever since I was a child, I loved holding onto moments of my parents doing special things for me - big and small. Big ones being Christmas, parties, and movies & little ones coming from my first McDonalds trip to going to buy toys from Toys R Us. I wanted to remember these moments, hold onto them - but for the reality we live in - we cannot hold them in our hands so how do we capture something we can’t touch? Take a picture. Boom.
I wish it were that simple, but briefly, that’s where my love for photos and photography began & ever since then, I have made it a goal of mine to photograph the best moments of my life. Some bigger than others, but everything accomplished with EYECAM has taught me exactly how much a photo means to others, not just myself. I sat in front of YouTube for what felt like hours but was months if not years - still following? Good.
This brings me to where I am today, with you - all of you amazing people. I love taking photos of what makes me happy, and people make me happy - to see the glowing eyes of someone saying "WOAH, THAT IS INSANE!!" that is priceless & brings me the same happiness that those childhood memories had on me. I guess you can say, this is somewhat of a people pleaser tactic, but it goes deeper than that for me. I want the people I work with to love the moments created with me & I will dedicate work like none other to get that check on my list.
In my next Blog, I will talk about why it is hard to please everyone & how I manage to do it anyways (within reason).
Okay, one more thing to tell you - then I promise, less about me and more about what I want to talk about (which is the reason I started this blog). I have one question that I ask myself before every shoot and I want you to ask yourself the same question before each shoot as a model or photographer or creative.
"Is today Day 1 or will this be one day?".
